The Woodland Creek Series is an innovative and collaborative collection of Shifter stories set in one town, each with a guaranteed Happily Ever After.

What I’ve Read:

I was lucky enough to be given THREE ARCs from this collection, each very different from the other. Isn’t that what makes PNR great? How each author can be given the same location, the same boundaries, and yet the outcome is is original. I am honored to have been given the chance to preview a tenth of the talent within this collection and am eager to see what everyone else has come up with.

Running Free by K Webster

Can Frankie prove her innocence with a sexy detective hot on her trail?  Goodreads

Running Free K Webster (1)Frankie Aleen, a Doberman-shifter, has lived her life in and out of both foster homes and animal shelters. Without a mentor to guide her through the trials of shapeshifting, she was left to struggle to find balance between that of human and dog. Five years ago, though, she ran away from Chicago and ended up in the quaint town of Woodland Creek, Indiana, at the age of seventeen and finally found a safe harbor. An owl-shifter, Otis Brock, took her in and has been a father figure to her ever since.

Even though Frankie, now a bartender, has a wild, rebellious streak, she feels obligated to seek out other abandoned shifters to provide mentorship of her own. Frankie’s safe haven is threatened, however, when teen shifters start turning up dead around Woodland Pond, and she makes it her mission to find the perpetrator and seek justice.

But when one of Woodland Creek PD’s finest, Detective Gunnar Mason, starts sniffing around, he begins to notice that each of the deceased teens are somehow linked to that of the sexy, mysterious bartender with a sharp tongue. He doesn’t want her out of his sight until he’s sure she’s not responsible for the deaths that are stacking up. Things aren’t what they seem in Woodland Creek and he’s sure that Frankie is harboring a dark secret—a secret that may be the key to solving the entire case.

Will Frankie become distracted from her quest for justice by the handsome detective that seems immune to her powers of intimidation? What will happen when Gunnar discovers secrets that weren’t ever meant to be uncovered by humans?

Running Free is a cute PNR read that will have you giggling, holding your breath, and,. at times, squeezing your things together. While not my favorite PNR ever, it certainly is enjoyable and entertaining.
I really enjoyed Frankie’s development from lost and broken adolescent to badass-bartender/orphaned-shifter mentor, even if it was already complete by the time our story starts. Ms. Webster did a great job giving us just enough of her backstory to be abel to embrace who Frankie is now. Gunnar is a BBF to ntoe for sure. Always out to do the right thing, never one to back down from a challenge, he will melt your heart and panties.
I think most PNR lovers (and a lot of contemporary romance lovers) will enjoy this fun story.

Gargoyle by Scarlett Dawn

Being stone-hard has never been this sexy and wicked before.  Goodreads

GARGOYLE - Scarlett DawnA shifter made of stone. And wings.
A human bent on free love. And drunk.
A joke could be made with those two lines.

But the town of Woodland Creek, it’s no laughing matter. Hostile and magical residents guard their secrets. It’s too easy to be found out.

When Isaac Stone first meets Kennedy Kirk, he’s tempted to shove her off the clock tower. After all, she is gripping his private parts to lean over and see his town. One little push is all it would take…

Isaac never anticipated he’d be the one to fall.

When will SD stop surprising me?!?!
Seriously, this was awesome. I was extremely curious how the whole “gargoyle shifter” thing worked, and the visual I got from SD was fantastic.
I wanted to hate Isaac, I did, but his character is so funny I just couldn’t. That is not to say I didn’t wish I could smack him around a little… good thing he’s not real or I’d be in a world of trouble taking on a shifter!
Kennedy is, well, she’s special. She is tough, smart, sassy, and human. So very human. Loved her. Her reaction to certain situations was heartfelt and agonizing (especially once you got the whole story).
The story starts off with a bang. Literally. Panty-soaking, hot-as-hell, erotic craziness that will leave you squirming and panting. Be prepared. You may want to take a momentary break from reading with your significant other.
One of the things I love about SD is her ability to take what could be a huge, HUGE, book and give you everything you need/want in a novella. That takes talent. Talent she has in spades.
If you are looking for a great PNR, Gargoyle has the whole shebang: heat, anger, sadness, loss, joy, jealousy, guilt, everything. Don’t delay, grab it as soon as you can.
I give Gargoyle 5 Cups.

J.D. Hollyfield sums up how I feel about Sinful Instincts right in the book itself…
“God, this is awesome. Like a kid’s first trip to the toy store awesome.”
Now, I know you’re probably wondering why I only gave 4 stars is it’s that awesome. I am really picky about my PNR, so understand, 4 stars is AWESOME.
I love reading Ms. Hollyfield’s work and have for a while now, so when I hear she branched out into one of my favorite sub-genres I jumped at the chance to read it. I. Was. Not. Disappointed.
The classic wit, humor, sexiness, heart-wrenching moments, and hot-as-sin leading man that we have come to expect from this author is all packed into this great shifter read. The heroine is tough, slightly broken, hard-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside perfect, and curses like a f*ing sailor. So, in other words, she rocks. J.D. hit the proverbial PNR-leading-man-nail-on-the-head with Sin. He is an addicting mix of focus, carnal instinct, angst, and badass-sexy.
The story-line was not only interesting, but well delivered and engaging. The peripheral characters are amazing and add just the right amount of zing! and suspense. I absolutely 100% recommend this for a fun read you will probably devour in one sitting.
I give Sinful Instincts 4 Cups
