I think the thing I love the most about SD’s writing is how week she keeps her characters consistent. Moon Mark is no different. While Madeline and Geo grow, they never lose their core being. When things are awkward or uncomfortable, the author owns it. When their vocabulary didn’t match, it’s funny. When they try to flirt, it’s hilarious.

Madeline is super duper smart. I mean, I gotta respect a chick that knows how to blow stuff up. I just do. I also appreciated her selflessness, even in what starts as a horrifying experience.

“Circumstances make you do what you must.”

Geo is stellar. Even though the book is entirely in Madeline’s POV, you still feel very connected to him. No matter how he felt about Madeline, he still took care of her.

The entire book is exciting (some scenes in a rawr wink drunk kinda way) and yet there is subtle romance and an honest relationship building in the midst of war.

Review ~ House of Judges by Keary Taylor

House of Judges by Keary Taylor

HOUSE OF JUDGES new 2 Alivia once led a House full of immortal vampires, but now everything has been stripped away. Her friends have turned their backs on her, convinced she betrayed them and their Born kind. Taken prisoner to the King’s Court, she awaits her trial. But the sins of her father threaten to blacken her chances of clearing her name.

Alivia toyed with King Cyrus’ heart—and now, he’s going to make her pay. Perhaps with her life.

Hidden in the belly of the castle, truths will come to light, and the surface of the King’s brutality and the horrors of the castle have barely been scratched.

Prepare to be judged…

Everything in life eventually spirals out of control. And then, we find ourselves, here, at the bottom of everything.

House of Judges is so deep, so sad, that I couldn’t help but want to curl into a ball and rock for all of the turmoil Alivia was going through. This book was actually difficult to read in some places, taking the reader deep into the heart of revenge and retribution. Don’t worry, there are enough bright spots, well some of them are bright-ish but still effective, that you can make it through.

And you’re going to want to. Because that cliffy…whoa.

It’s tough for me to review without spoiling the previous books, and so I’m going to err on the side of caution in case you haven’t read them. BTW, read them 🙂

Author Bio
I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicous cycle. I love carbs, but there’s love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out, I’m a raving bitch. My iPad and me: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a bad-ass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).
