Moon Mark (A Mark Novella)
Subject Name: Madeline Faire
When natural disaster strikes Joyal, Madeline is tossed from her planet into the hands of the Kireg. Madeline has always feared the Kireg, an alien who can bend—or snap—a mind with only a thought. What she found on their home planet is even more frightening. Civil unrest has exploded and enemies are everywhere. But the one thing she never expected to find was her mate, the rebellion leader who started the war.
*THIS IS A STANDALONE NOVELLA WITHIN THE MARK SERIES*
I think the thing I love the most about SD’s writing is how week she keeps her characters consistent. Moon Mark is no different. While Madeline and Geo grow, they never lose their core being. When things are awkward or uncomfortable, the author owns it. When their vocabulary didn’t match, it’s funny. When they try to flirt, it’s hilarious.
Madeline is super duper smart. I mean, I gotta respect a chick that knows how to blow stuff up. I just do. I also appreciated her selflessness, even in what starts as a horrifying experience.
“Circumstances make you do what you must.”
Geo is stellar. Even though the book is entirely in Madeline’s POV, you still feel very connected to him. No matter how he felt about Madeline, he still took care of her.
The entire book is exciting (some scenes in a rawr wink drunk kinda way) and yet there is subtle romance and an honest relationship building in the midst of war.
