Game Player by BJ Harvey
Matt Taylor’s motto:
“I’m the king of the cut ‘n’ run. I wine them, dine them, then slide inside them, making sure I get up, get dressed and get out before they can even utter the words “second date.”
Mia Roberts’ motto:
“I’m queen of the chase. I meet them, greet them, date them and leave them. A social butterfly, I’m happily single and happy to stay that way.”
The players have been found.
The challenge has been set.
Whatever happens, they’ll soon find out that playing the game can get you played in the best possible way. Continue reading

I’ve always been a fighter,
Even before I knew it was in my blood.
I fought the demons of my past.
I fought for my life.
I fought for the future I wanted.
Growing up in a foster home, after my father killed my mother,
I fought for who I was,
Who I could become.
And now, it’s what I do, what I am.
My career is in the ring, taking down every opponent I face,
Every enemy who threatens me.
But now, I’ve got the biggest fight of my life,
Fighting for her, the one I want,
The one I can’t have.
Salem Harris is taken, but I swear to God,
She’ll be mine, even if I go down for the count,
I’ll fight like Hell for her,
Or die trying.
Before I get into the story I just want to say that I loved the fact that most of the story is from Gabriel/Saint’s POV. It gave such a different feel and really helped me fall in freaking LOVE with him. And the quotes at the beginning of each chapter? I ❤ them.
Gabriel has had a difficult childhood; the only thing that kept him from becoming just another statistic was finding his boxing trainer Frankie. For years, through school and beyond, Gabriel has worked hard to attain his goal of becoming a professional fighter and now he was being given a real shot by a sponsor. The only trouble is Gabriel wants more than just the sponsor’s money.
Salem didn’t grow up in the poor, crime riddled lifestyle Gabriel did, but she has her own issues to deal with. Always letting others – especially her parents – control her life, Salem is basically living a lie. She and Blake have been together for forever and she expects they will stay that way. Even though their initial meeting has Salem spitting fire at Gabriel, one horrible night shows her a different side of him.
The emotional rollercoaster that is On the Ropes will leave you feeling drained. The push and pull between Salem and Gabriel is addicting, but there is a bit of a, well, downer. Salem. She is a bit too whiney for me. Oh my life is so hard. My parents will be mad if I don’t do what they say. I swear my douche-bag boyfriend loves me. Um, WAKE UP HONEY!
Gabriel on the other hand, I love you. Now, I do believe that my bias is due to the book being mostly from his POV, but that’s ok. you don’t have to love Salem. What fun would it be if we loved all characters from the get go, really?
